With the idea that unity makes the force, a new space is born in Barcelona that combines the previous work of two galleries, El Catascopio and Art Deal project. Both will share location and initiatives to expand towards new creative talents and strengthen the authors with whom they usually work.

In Art Photo Bcn they propose a stand that combines the artistic photography of Rocío Verdejo with the incursion in the photographic medium of Varvara Guljajeva & Mar Canet in which they cross the line towards the new media.

Alegoría de la memoria by Rocío Verdejo plays with the symbolism of a female memory that presents and relates to her memories in the form of natural elements that change over time. Under the Water by Guljajeva & Canet is dedicated to taking images under the sea through artificial intelligence with a clear objective towards the detection of plastics in the marine environment.

Alegoría de la memoria is a sequence of images that personifies memory in a woman. She appears as the ancestral woman, wild and visceral, connected with nature. Memory is time, present, past and future. And like a woman, memory is mutant and there is light and shadow in her. As if it were a fantastic creature of mythology, she lives in her white space receiving the experiences that she will transform into memories. In her scenes, white color predominates. This refers to the fact that memory is a space to be built by each one. The protagonist’s positions also reflect the action herself and qualities of memory: elasticity, flexibility, permeability, intimacy, etc. Flowers are memories and they tell us about the every moment changing memory.

Under The Water is a serie of impressions produced with an automatic learning algorithm. Working with a neural network of Artificial Intelligence that generates speculative images of the anthropocene, images that have never been seen before.

Varvara Guljajeva & Mar Canet have developed several data sets related to plastic in the ocean, these were used to train the Progressive GAN algorithm to generate images of garbage underwater. The goal is to let the machine imagine how our environment will look soon if society does not change their lifestyle. This project calls to stop and think what we are about to lose.
